On October 31, “Zero Tariffs, New Opportunities” Farewell Ceremony for Tanzanian Exhibitors to the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Tanzania. Chinese Ambassador H.E. Chen Mingjian and Hon. Dennis Londo, Tanzanian Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade attended the event and delivered remarks, together with over 120 people including representatives from Tanzanian exhibitors, organizing bodies, financial and logistics service providers.

Ambassador Chen said that since China implemented the zero-tariff policy covering all tariff lines for the 53 African diplomatic counterparts, early outcomes have been achieved in Tanzania. The first batches of Tanzanian honey have entered China via the green channel. Exports of competitive agricultural and mineral goods including sesame seeds, cashew nuts and graphite ore have become preferred purchases for Chinese buyers. Tanzania’s export competitiveness to China has increased markedly. China welcomes Tanzania to share new opportunities and promote common development.

Deputy Minister Londo spoke highly of China’s zero-tariff policy to Africa and its support for Tanzania’s participation in the CIIE, and encouraged Tanzanian exhibitors to seize opportunities to increase exports to China and turn policy advantages into industrial gains and livelihood benefits.

Ambassador Chen and Deputy Minister Londo toured the exhibits to be showcased at the CIIE and held an in-depth exchange.
