To carry forward the TAZARA spirit, inherit China-Tanzania traditional friendship, and promote tourism and wildlife conservation along TAZARA line, the Chinese Embassy in Tanzania, in collaboration with the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as well as TAZARA Authority, organized a TAZARA commemoration trip for youth of the two countries on 3 November 2018.

Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Ms. Wang Ke, Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Dr. Hamisi Kigwangalla, Deputy Minister for Works, Transport and Communication Eng. Atsahasta Nditiye, Deputy Managing Director of TAZARA Eng. Timothy Kayani joined with the Tanzanian university students, young diplomats of the Chinese Embassy and Chinese teachers and volunteers from the Confucius Institute at the University of Dar es Salaam in attending the event.

In her speech at the launch ceremony, Ambassador Wang Ke said that TAZARA is not only a symbolic project featuring China-Africa and China-Tanzania friendship, but also an excellent textbook for the people in the two countries, especially the younger generation, to learn the history of China-Tanzania friendship and create a better future for the bilateral relations. In her opinion, TAZARA can also serve as an important platform for the Tanzanian Government to promote wildlife protection and tourism since the railway passes several well-known wildlife conservation areas.

Minister Hamisi Kigwangalla spoke highly of TAZARA, the “Great Uhuru Railway”, and extended gratitude to the Chinese Government for offering support to the conservation operations in Tanzania, citing the donation of 50 special vehicles for patrolling in game reserves and national parks in recent years as an example.

At Selous Game Reserve, Ambassador Wang Ke, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Tanzania, donated some office supplies and articles of daily use to the Tanzania Wildlife Authority (TAWA), which is the government agency conducting wildlife conservation in Selous Game Reserve. She encouraged stakeholders to make full use of TAZARA to promote tourism and economic development, transforming rich natural resources into tangible economic benefits.

Most of the young participants have never experienced the trip to Selous Game Reserve by TAZARA. Apart from joys and excitement, the trip has provided them a good opportunity to learn the history of TAZARA and to deepen their understanding on China-Tanzania friendship.
