2020-09-18 13:30

The Chief Spokesperson of the Tanzanian Government Dr. Hassan Abbasi said Tanzania commends the Global Initiative on Data Security proposed by China as an innovative initiative to promote global cooperation and governance on data security. He made the above comment when receiving an interview by a Xinhua News Agency reporter.

Dr. Abbasi stated that the Global Initiative on Data Security reflects the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and the basic norms of international laws, aiming at protecting national sovereignty as well as bringing nations together to deny any illegal activities on data stealing and interceptions. He revealed that Tanzania undertook several initiatives of similar nature in the recent past including the 2015 Cybercrimes Act that, among other things, criminalizes data interceptions and other online crimes on personal data.

Dr. Abbasi told the Chinese reporter that he prefers multilateral approaches and sharing rather than individual approaches in dealing with data issues, and that Tanzania will work with China and the rest of the international community to promote data security and the development of digital economy so that ICT technologies could be better utilized to boost global economic recovery and bring more benefits to the people in the world, especially those living in developing countries and middle-income countries like Tanzania.
