Chinese Embassy in Tanzania Launches the Swahili Version of 'A Monument to China-Africa Friendship: Firsthand Account of the Building of the TAZARA'

On 20 August 2020, the launching ceremony of the book 'Monument to China-Africa Friendship: Firsthand Account of the Building of the TAZARA' (Swahili Version) was held at the Chinese Embassy in Tanzania. The event was attended by H.E. Wang Ke, Ambassador of China to Tanzania, Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of Tanzania, former Tanzanian Ambassador to China Abdulrahaman Shimbo, Deputy Managing Director of TAZARA Mr. Geoffrey Sengo and representatives of several educational institutions.

In her speech, Ambassador Wang Ke said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the ground-breaking of TAZARA and the 45th anniversary of its operation, and that the publishing of this book will facilitate better understanding of that extraordinary period of history by Tanzanians and other Africans, which will make them cherish more the China-Tanzania and China-African friendships forged with sweat and blood.

Ambassador Wang Ke delivers her speech

Ambassador Wang Ke stressed that China will continue to follow the guidance of the TAZARA spirit, enhance cooperation with Tanzania in various fields, and support Tanzania in its effort to accelerate industrialization and achieve independent and sustainable development. At the same time, China is willing to strengthen coordination and mutual support with Tanzania in international affairs so as to make joint contributions to upholding multilateralism and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, the Ambassador added.

Minister Kabudi delivers his speech

Tanzanian Foreign Minister Palamagamba Kabudi said in his speech that TAZARA meant everything as far as the changing of the political, economic and geo-strategic situation of southern Africa is concerned, and that this great Uhuru railway is indeed an eloquent manifestation of South-South cooperation. He stressed that Tanzania and China are all-weather friends who have withstood the test of times, and that the future of Tanzania and China is inextricably linked, their economies are complementary and their interests in global stability and prosperity are in sync. The Minister reiterated that the Tanzania side is willing to work with China to jointly promote the continuous development of the bilateral relations.

During the launch ceremony, Ambassador Wang Ke and Minister Kabudi handed over the newly published books to Tanzania National Library, Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority, and the libraries of several universities and colleges in Dar es Salaam as the gifts from the Chinese Embassy, with the purpose of facilitating learning of the history of China-Africa friendship by college students and the general public.
